WASHINGTON –In response to reports that President Trump has been reelected for a second term, the Acacia Center for Justice issued the following statement:
“The United States has a long and mixed history of how we treat immigrant communities. Yet, our nation has been enriched by its multiethnic, multicultural fabric since its earliest days. No election result will erase the diversity and strength of our multicultural origins,” said Shaina Aber, executive director of Acacia Center for Justice.
“Acacia’s mission is to uphold the promise of equal justice under the law for everyone in our immigration system. Acacia’s legal representation and assistance programs help people face our challenging, complex, and dehumanizing immigration system. Our work helps people who aspire to join our nation come one step closer to their dreams. Whatever comes, our partners will fight to ensure due process protections are not jettisoned in favor of politically motivated scapegoating.
“We are clear-eyed about the challenges our immigrant neighbors and loved ones face regardless of who is in power. However, with our network of more than 130 community-based partner organizations and decades of combined expertise, we will continue to fight for the ability of people to have their cases heard, their rights vindicated, and their interests defended.”
The Acacia Center for Justice calls on the Trump-Vance administration to acknowledge the wishes of the majority of the American public and turn a page on divisive and exclusionary campaign rhetoric. The new administration must work to support real solutions that help communities thrive together, centering family unity, dignity, belonging, and the common good of all people who are and will always be a part of our rich national tapestry.
