Katie Fleming

Program Director, Legal Orientation and Legal Orientation Program for Custodians

Katie Fleming is the Program Director of the Legal Orientation Program (LOP) for detained adults, as well as the Legal Orientation Program for Custodians of Minors (LOPC). Katie has over 13 years of experience advocating for individuals and families facing deportation. She has spent most of her career working in the nonprofit sector and has developed expertise in the area of removal defense, particularly for vulnerable groups. Throughout her career Katie has been involved in several grassroots community efforts aimed at increasing access to representation for underserved communities. Such initiatives include the Attorney of the Day program at the Sacramento and San Francisco Immigration Courts, as well as prior service on the Steering Committee for the California Collaborative for Immigrant Justice. Prior to joining Acacia, Katie served as the Legal Services Director at the International Rescue Committee in Northern California where she sought to expand and strengthen pro bono representation in the area. She has also practiced in San Diego where she was a qualified representative for detained immigrants who were found mentally incompetent to represent themselves. Katie is a member of the California Bar. She completed her undergraduate studies at Georgetown University and earned her J.D. from the University of the Pacific, McGeorge School of Law. Based in Fair Oaks, California Katie enjoys hiking, fly fishing, and exploring the outdoors.
