As Associate Program Director for the Legal Orientation Program (LOP) and Legal Orientation Program for Custodians (LOPC), Luis provides support and technical assistance to nonprofit legal service providers that educate detained immigrants and custodians of children released from immigration custody about their removal proceedings so that they can make informed decisions about their legal cases.
Prior to joining Acacia’s Center for Justice, Luis was the LOP Program Manager at the Vera Institute of Justice. Prior to joining Vera, Luis was an immigration staff attorney at Make the Road New York. There, he represented individuals on various forms of immigration relief, including individuals that were in removal proceedings and those applying affirmatively for humanitarian relief. Luis started his legal career as an immigration staff attorney at The Door’s Legal Services Center, where he worked directly with youth in pursuing immigration relief.
Luis is a graduate of Hunter College and the City University of New York School of Law, and lives in Brooklyn, NY with his two kids and partner.
