WASHINGTON — Today, the Acacia Center for Justice received a letter from the House Judiciary Committee stating the committee “continues to conduct oversight of the enforcement of federal immigration law,”  and as such, the committee is seeking information on Acacia’s federal funding, our programmatic spending, and specific data about our programs, including our programs that serve unaccompanied children and a class of families that were separated under the first Trump administration’s ‘zero-tolerance’ family separation program.

The Acacia Center for Justice is proud to advocate for access to justice and legal representation for people, including children, who are subject to detention and deportation proceedings. Like many nonprofits, Acacia engages in a small amount of lobbying with non-federal dollars to support our programs and the people they serve.

Acacia holds federal contracts to administer programs that are either congressionally appropriated, such as our representation and legal assistance for unaccompanied children (Unaccompanied Children Program), or mandated by litigation to which the government is bound, such as the Legal Access Services for Reunited Families (LASRF) program. We manage our programs in compliance with the terms of those contracts, which require Acacia to perform representation and legal services work for certain immigrant populations.

The Unaccompanied Children Program has received bipartisan funding since the George W. Bush administration and during both Trump administrations.

We stand behind our work, which we undertake with the utmost integrity and commitment to our community.

Acacia Center for Justice expands meaningful access to justice and freedom for immigrants at risk of detention or deportation in partnership with an accountable and independent national network of immigrant legal service providers and community partners. Acacia Center for Justice’s reach and impact are unparalleled. The national nonprofit currently operates publicly funded programs and responsive collaborations through a network of over 130 legal service providers nationwide.
