WASHINGTON Shaina Aber, executive director of the Acacia Center for Justice, issued the following statement in response to Congress passing the disastrous budget reconciliation bill:

“The administration’s reckless budget bill will spend billions of taxpayer dollars to rip families apart, allow the indefinite detention of children and families seeking safety in harmful conditions, all while stripping lifesaving supports from millions of people who call the U.S home.

“As this administration continues to prioritize its ruthless and chaotic enforcement machine at the expense of wellbeing of our community members and loved ones, a majority of Americans have made it clear that they reject this intentional cruelty in favor of policies that uphold and defend justice and our shared humanity. We will continue to defend our communities and fight to preserve our basic constitutional rights and protections in the face of these relentless attacks.”
